A brief controversy recently emerged after comments attributed to Aaron Greenberg, Head of Marketing at Xbox, appeared to dismiss the popularity of Banjo-Kazooie. During a community interaction at an event related to Microsoft Flight Simulator, a participant asked which classic game fans would like to see return. When someone mentioned Banjo-Kazooie, Greenberg was reportedly quoted as saying that “no one cares about Banjo-Kazooie.”
The statement quickly spread online and triggered criticism from longtime fans of the franchise. Many players argued that Banjo-Kazooie still holds an important place in gaming history and remains beloved by the community. Some also pointed to the success of modern platformers such as Astro Bot as proof that classic-style platforming games can still thrive today.
Soon after the discussion gained traction online, the situation began to clear up. A user known as JayWood2010 expressed doubts about the quote and suggested the remark might have been misunderstood or taken out of context.
Greenberg later responded through X (Twitter) to clarify the situation. He explained that the comment had been misinterpreted and emphasized that he fully understands how important the Banjo-Kazooie series is to its fans.
According to Greenberg, the franchise also holds personal meaning for him, as he grew up playing the classic games. Following the clarification, some outlets that previously reported the quote, including MyNintendoNews, updated their coverage to reflect the corrected context.
